Dr. Wenjie Evans made the timeloop possible—and is the only person who truly knows how it works. Now you know who to thank for the constant hangover.
Dr. Wenjie Evans is a renowned physicist and one of the Visionaries in Deathloop. She is the AEON Program's Chief Scientist and the primary architect of the time loop affecting Blackreef.
Background[]
Wenjie Evans is one of the founding members of the AEON Program, along with Egor Serling and Harriet Morse.[1] She may be best known for Evans' Law of Variation (and Second Law of Variation), however the truth is that she plagiarized it from an assistant who later died in a suspicious lab accident.[2]
As AEON's head scientist, Wenjie's job was to create a system that would allow the Program to harness the energy produced by Blackreef's anomaly to create the time loop seen on Blackreef today. She succeeded in doing so by repurposing the Stabilizer antenna to harness power from the anomaly and drive it into the core. She also imbued herself and the other Visionaries with this same energy, to make them the anchors for the loop, planning to stop the loop after 50 years had passed, rather than the approximate 13,562 years before the loop became unstable.[3] Wenjie is also responsible for creating the Slabs and Trinkets found on Blackreef - refining pure residuum to create them.[4][5]
While in the Loop, she intended to continue researching the breach phenomena seen around the anomaly.[3] She theorized that creating the Loop would allow her to create breaches in spacetime that permitted people from other timelines to visit hers.[6] This theory proved correct and, while in the Loop, she has created breaches to allow Wenjies from other timelines to visit her every day. However, these Wenjies have to return to their timelines by Evening and she is in search of a way to create a stable breach which doesn't close every day. She believes that the solution to this problem may be hidden behind a locked door in Updaam.[7][8][9]
Wenjie has realized that Julianna and Colt retain their memories between loops, whereas she does not. This distresses her and she has focused her efforts on preserving knowledge and memory across iterations, specifically by infusing herself with residuum. However, this has yet to be successful.[10]
Personality[]
Wenjie may appear distant and dismissive, but that's because she understands that the only person who can provide her with a stimulating discussion is herself.
She is generally disinterested with the other Visionaries' pursuits, even scientific ones such as Egor Serling's efforts to contact the future.
